SPEAKER_12

Hello, and welcome to the B and C, the Black Nerd Culture podcast, where three brothers have deeper conversations about the Black Nerd Sphere and beyond. I am Sean here with Vin and CJ. Today we'll be discussing the fly for its 40th anniversary, starring Jeff Goldblum, Gina Davis, and John Goetz. David or directed by David Cronenberg, written by Charles Edward Pogue and David Cronenberg, based on the short story by George Langolan. So with the preamble out of the way, let's jump right in.

SPEAKER_13

Funnily enough, Mr. Pogue, um basically, so David Cronenberg actually kind of took over, directed, because it was actually supposed to be directed by a different person. And then David Cronenberg took over and changed so much of the script that um Pogue was like, it's not even my script anymore, but David, but Cronenberg was still like, you still made sure he got the credit for his co-writer. Because that means he eats. Right. Basically.

SPEAKER_07

And I'm sure I I don't I didn't even look up how much this made, but I'm sure this this was a nice pay. It did well. It's just some nice payday. Because as much as this is well, and and you know, I know I'm using the wrong kind of metrics for that because you think of how much it well cult classic it is, and that doesn't always translate to that usually doesn't translate to box office, honestly.

SPEAKER_13

That is true, but it made 60 million worldwide for 1986. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And also on a budget of like nine or fifteen million, depending on yeah, because it was a very small movie. There were only like three actors and then three named actors, really. Three named actors, yeah. Or three main actors, I'll say. Yeah, three, because the other it was like what four or five, I think, other names. Yeah, there was David Croner Connor being one of them. Yeah, David Cronenberg is the kind of collegist. Yeah. Marky, there was a another bruiser or some shit like that in the bar. But yeah, there was but um it's it it's definitely a cult classic in in nerddom history. Um it's mainly because of Cronenberg and his weird ass special effects. He went there, and uh, I think it's just saying he's a sick fuck. He's he's an odd odd man.

SPEAKER_07

Hey, yeah, hey, he's a he's a bit of a sick fuck. I will absolutely 100% say that so as a child, um I 100% avoided the fuck out of this movie because of the special effects. Um and then uh my lovely wife, who is a gore fiend, um raised by her father, who was a gore fiend. Um knows all the ways and ins and outs of horror movies. Um this was her shit. Um just besides the fact of Jeff Goulbulb because Jeff Goldbum just had that.

SPEAKER_12

Um yeah, he had that charisma. He um to me, I mean, we're gonna get into it, but he his vulnerability with the character makes this movie so much more special than the sum of its parts. Because it could have been a Schlocky B movie, but he and Gina Davis's chemistry and his tragedy, the the tragedy he was able to convey as um this person going through this horrible transformation. Yep, it kept his it kept his character grounded and centered.

SPEAKER_07

Goldblum was was 100% key. Gina did her goddamn thing too. Yes, of course. Um personally, I'm not a big Gina Davis fan. I love Gina Davis. I love Gina Davis. That was my childhood crush. Yeah, and that is a big thing. Everybody was a childhood crush or or had a crush on Gina Davis. Yeah, so much she just wasn't me. Um I just wasn't there. It's cool. I don't disrespect her for that or anything like that. It's just you know how some people get, oh, everybody goes on this motherfucker, but I don't get it. Personally, I don't get it, but hey, have at it. I mean, she was a model before, right? She was a model before she had acting. Uh I don't know.

SPEAKER_13

I could have been there.

SPEAKER_07

Jeff Goldblum saw it because you know they were together.

SPEAKER_13

Um they were dating, yes.

SPEAKER_07

I mean didn't they were didn't they marry? I don't think they ever married. Were they just long-term? They were just long term.

SPEAKER_13

I think they they were dated and they were dating during this movie. That's how she got on, actually, is because originally Jeff Jeff was not the first pick for the movie. Um they had to con um I think I can't remember who did the convincing of what, but they they uh had to be convinced to use them. And um then uh Davis was that the the choice for the lead, but they saw the chemistry together, one of the one of the producers, I believe. So the chemistry they had together, and it was like um because they because they met on Earth Girls Are Easy, correct?

SPEAKER_07

Could be because that's where I thought they met. Um but anyway, uh I forgot what my main point was going to be. Oh yeah, the gore. So um especially for what the time was, that was fantastic. It was disgustingly fantastic.

SPEAKER_12

Um no, they were actually um Earth Girls are easy that came out after the fly.

SPEAKER_13

But when was it put together though? That's fair. I have no idea. But what were you saying about the gore?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, the especially for the time. I mean, that was fantastic effects.

SPEAKER_12

Where the fuck did they get goddamn baboons? That's what I want to know.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, uh, that's a good question. My wife, we because we we just rewatched it and all that. We were like, um, he just had baboons everywhere.

SPEAKER_13

It's like baboons from the goddamn baboon store. What the fuck? And uh they never explained the baboons.

SPEAKER_15

I'm sorry, he killed your brother, like bro, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

And I will say this so today you forget how good of an actor Jeff Goldblum was because he kind of eats the scenery. I mean, I you will be forgiven because the thing is, I mean the same thing with Al Pacino, because Al Pacino's a bag, he goes in and he eats scenery. That's what he does. Right scenery. Same thing with um Jeff Goldblow. Jeff Goldblum right now is Jeff Goldblum, no matter what. Jeff Goldblum as the what was it, the collector? Yep, was Jeff Goldblum. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't the collector, it was the uh uh sovereign or whatever. Yeah, yeah, collector was uh yeah, uh let's call it god damn it.

SPEAKER_07

Names was just escaping me, god damn.

SPEAKER_13

Legends, but yeah, like him, like of course they earn the right to you know two scenery two scenery as as as they want to, like that they've earned more than earned that right, but you would be forgiven if you would just if you just all he's just doing he's just being himself. Yeah, but it but no Jeff Jeff Goldwyn was a force, and the honestly, the performance he turns in here is phenomenal. Yeah, absolutely. For it to be such a small movie, uh for it to be something that's based off of uh a short story that was made back in the 50s. The the movie was made off of back in the 50s, it's like the short story is from the 50s too. That's true too. So both two. That's what he was saying.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Uh, but just like he was giving it his all for that character.

SPEAKER_07

I mean, he he made he was cooking.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Definitely. Definitely. Uh um we could get into the synopsis. Okay, so uh we meet uh our protagonist, uh Seth speaking with um Veronica Quaif uh a bas I believe it's like a science convention. Um and we just uh and that's honestly just where the movie opens. They're speaking, and he tells her that he's got something that could change the world. She's reluctant to believe him, thinks it's a line, and they go back to his place so he can show her. And um, he shows her these two telepods, which are also iconic at this point. The the force of the telepods are basically iconic, like because I'm sure they've been used throughout science fiction multiple times at this point.

SPEAKER_12

Right. They look like they've been they were HR Geiger designed, basically.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, very much so. Very reminiscent of kind of an alien tech uh alien technology.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, I like that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Um, so he tell so he shows her these pods and he tells her that they're teleportation pods. She, of course, does not believe him. And um, he gives her a demonstration by uh taking one of her stockings and teleporting it from one pod to the next. And she starts she uh reveals to him that she's a journalist. Well, I'm sorry, she starts recording their conversation and the tape kind of gets uh No, she does they she he he knows she's a journalist to start with.

SPEAKER_07

Uh yes, because he's he calls out the he said he calls out and says, I didn't know you were a journalist.

SPEAKER_14

That's a fucking lie.

SPEAKER_12

He corners her and says You want to talk because I'm gonna go talk to uh two other scientists, and she's like, What makes you different from them?

SPEAKER_13

And she's like, They're lying. I'm not. He knew uh so she could have been a science groupie.

SPEAKER_07

That's what I think he thought he he was dealing with, right? He was he was 100% not trying to just you know let me tell you about what I'm doing. It was let me tell you what I'm doing so we can do some things.

SPEAKER_13

Like so, what I think is that I I think this is part of the character because the thing is the reason why is because I think he's so absent-minded and so uh starred for attention because he says he's been working on this by himself for a while, exactly. Yes, and he didn't he just wanted to tell somebody about this, right? Yeah, not really realizing that, you know, we're putting the pieces together that she's a fucking, you know, she's doing this for her job.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_07

Because I don't think we even like technically knew she was a journalist until she that is not revealed until she says it. Yeah, so yeah, he ain't no.

SPEAKER_13

He was just like Yeah, I think he he might have known quote unquote, but didn't rec it didn't register. It didn't register, right?

SPEAKER_12

I can fully get that. I can fully understand that it didn't really recommend like it didn't really register to him.

SPEAKER_13

Right. He thought this was kind of like off the books or stuff, something like that, along those lines. Whatever. Yeah, yeah. So he she pulls out a recorder, starts recording, make conversation, and then the tape gets gummed up or it starts to beep, and she pulls out the recorder and playing so he can see it. Yeah, she has to switch the tape. Sorry, flip it, flip the tape.

SPEAKER_14

For for uh kids.

SPEAKER_13

We had tape for you children. What they were not in the read the way you would record things was not digitally, it was an analogue, and it had to go on a little tape cassette that uh and that was that was a Marvel for its time when it first came out as well. Yes, it was because the cassettes used to be these gigantic things, yeah. You were damn near a poke, yeah.

unknown

What?

SPEAKER_13

So yes, uh again. This is a movie made in the 1980s, uh towards the 86, yeah, mid eighties. Yeah, we're we're dooding damn uh anniversary, yeah. Yeah, so yeah, but remember this is so they didn't have she couldn't just keep her phone just recording. No, that's exactly there were no such things as smartphones during this time, and it was a great use of the technology at the time to make it to you know move the scene forward and to yeah, yeah, yeah, you know.

SPEAKER_12

Explain more about the character and why he's so uh uh worried about this getting out and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_13

So she produces the um so she uh puts a uh tape recorder in playing view, and he's gets freaked out and is like, why are you recording this? And she explains, I am a journalist. She's like, This is what I do. So he starts to explain that you just can't get out, like it's not ready yet. Like it's not the experiment's not finished yet. But before he can explain why it's not finished, she um basically takes off. And um, this is like, yeah, I'm gonna go to my editor with this. Have a nice day. So she basically runs off, and the next thing we see her with her asshole editor, Staphis, played by Don Gates. Bad guy.

SPEAKER_07

Has Getz ever played a good guy?

SPEAKER_12

I mean I can't remember perennial douchebags that were around the bottom.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, he was always the full of himself absolute phallus. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Like I know you want me. Basically. Basically. We're just gonna.

SPEAKER_14

I mean, I guess we'll get into it later.

SPEAKER_13

Like the name is he has like who names your child staff? What in the fuck?

SPEAKER_07

I'm sorry for anybody out there who named Stathis, but there is here. We don't know nobody. Hey, Staffis.

SPEAKER_13

I'm sorry. I'm not sorry. Fuck you, buddy. All right, okay.

SPEAKER_12

We're just the PC guy here.

SPEAKER_06

That's called.

SPEAKER_12

If there's one Staphus out there, we don't like you.

SPEAKER_13

We don't like you. Honestly, two votes out of two votes out of three. Yes. Staff, we don't stand staphises at the BNC.

SPEAKER_07

I'm like, God damn. Oh, it's Greek. It's Greek. That makes sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I still care.

SPEAKER_13

It means I stand by what I said. I stand by what I said. Yeah. We've all we stand by what we say. If you name Greek, I got no problems with that. I got no problem with Jocreese. I got no problems with y'all. I gotta learn a little bit more about history, but yeah, the Greeks have problems.

SPEAKER_07

Listen, this is fair, but still.

SPEAKER_13

So yes, uh, so she's so fucking name.

SPEAKER_07

Like, damn. No, fuck that. Now, Adolf? Damn, y'all got it bad, bro. But uh Staphus. I mean, it's Staphis.

SPEAKER_13

Staphus sounds like an asshole. It does, it really does.

SPEAKER_07

Really like the more I say it in my head, it's right. Yeah, ooh, that sounds pretentious as hell.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, pretentious as the last name.

SPEAKER_07

What was it? Borins.

SPEAKER_13

Staphus Borens. Jesus Christ. You couldn't think of a more asshole name than that.

SPEAKER_12

Other than actually, I'm looking at his IMD Temple Templeton Peck. Yeah.

SPEAKER_10

Ah, Templeton Peck. I forgot about Templeton.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah. So yeah, he was just born to play assholes with asshole names. That's just because I'm you know, that's just what happens. He does he does a job.

SPEAKER_07

Yep. Can't yep. Can I don't even like that? They tried to give him a little hero turn at the end. It was worse actually.

SPEAKER_13

It was worse behind the scenes. So uh we'll kind of go on a bounce around because fuck it. It's a 40-year-old movie.

SPEAKER_07

But um, if you don't know the movie by now, you if you haven't seen it by now, you just you just didn't wanna.

SPEAKER_13

But um one of the deleted scenes or one of the I think it was either Rin or deleted deleted scenes was um uh Ronnie waking up with Staphis after having a nightmare about having uh Brundle Flies. You know what?

SPEAKER_07

And I was wondering if he was supposed to be in the bed. When she woke up, I was wondering if she was if he was supposed to be in the pit.

SPEAKER_13

But that was supposed to be one of the endings, yeah.

SPEAKER_12

Well that didn't happen. Yeah, especially given and um I watched the sequel for old time six because growing up on cable, they wouldn't would never really show the fly, the first one. They would always show the fucking sequel, second one, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Always that shit was always on, and you know especially the sci-fi channel, right?

SPEAKER_07

Oh yeah, and it really you should have known what it was when on the sci-fi channel. Right, yeah. Now, was it S Y?

SPEAKER_13

No, this is original sci-fi channel. Original limits and shit like that, yeah. Yeah, because S Y was absolutely out there, like that was right, but no, this was original, original SCI Fi channel. Science fiction channel too much. Actual science fiction channel was awesome. Missed that channel, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

That was awesome. Yeah, but like um Yeah, they should have told you if they kept playing it all the time, all the time. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_12

Nobody cares about one word about that fucking movie, yeah. And they showed. But um, so in the sequel though, he does show up.

SPEAKER_13

They have Steph is the only one who returns.

SPEAKER_12

Yes, yeah, Steph is the only one who returns.

SPEAKER_13

They even got uh uh somebody else to play Gene uh Genew Davis' character in the beginning of the movie, and in Flashbacks, yeah. Uh we'll say or at least voice backs because they they do a kind of uh a flashback with Jeff Goldblum, and they use some of the deleted scenes from The Fly Um to kind of uh you know get that going.

SPEAKER_12

Like it was a fucking hack job because they didn't have any of the original actors except for John Gets.

SPEAKER_07

Let me go ahead and it was 5.2.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, yeah, wow. So just to just to give you some background, like because when we were watching the fly, he gives us he tells us about the about what happens, and we don't know like Daphne's Oniga?

SPEAKER_13

Yes, yeah, this was like bottom barrel Walmart find.

SPEAKER_07

I feel bad because Daphne wasn't horrible, she just got horrible, fucking whole. But what were you saying, Sean?

SPEAKER_12

But um, so the interesting thing is is that if since we watched it without watching the fly, we take his version of events to heart. That's the interesting thing about the this character, at least the best, probably the best part of the movie, was him just absolutely fucking lying to this kid about what happened.

SPEAKER_13

Because Eric Stouse plays the child of um Seth Brundle.

SPEAKER_04

I I figured it was all I figured it was the kid.

SPEAKER_13

And he goes go and uh he goes to uh staff is for answers to see about his past because um the I think it's the um the corporation that uh not corporation but the um lab that Seth is supposed to be running uh working with. Yes, it is the corporation. Yeah, okay. Um the ones that give it, yeah, gives Seth the funding. Takes him takes um or uh Gina D or Ronnie gives birth to um the kid. Martin, I think it is, right? Martin. Martin, yeah, yes. Um Ronnie gives birth to Martin. They basically take him and just kind of you know experiment on him and shit like that.

SPEAKER_12

And you know, but uh Ronnie dies in childbirth. Yeah. And uh so yeah, so and they also take the pods, of course.

SPEAKER_13

Of course. Um, I mean, the ones that are working.

SPEAKER_07

But uh so they reverse engineered the pods.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, no, they took the pods.

SPEAKER_07

One of them was fucked.

SPEAKER_14

I mean, they couldn't.

SPEAKER_07

That's what I meant by that's what I meant by reverse engineer.

SPEAKER_12

Right. No, they just took they just took one of the they just took the two pods, the two pot one ones.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, because he had the the the prototype and the one that severed the core.

SPEAKER_13

And all you gotta do is like re-fix that. Yeah, that was just a chord. Yeah, okay. Right.

SPEAKER_05

But it wasn't.

SPEAKER_13

But it's just just for a detour. Uh it was uh it's an interesting story, and the fact that John still likes this character enough just to kind of play as type still.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, very interesting, especially given because I was watching it, I was like, you're a fucking liar. That's not what the fuck happened.

SPEAKER_13

But it but it makes sense his character would lie about that because he says that Brundle stole Ronnie from him. Oh, of course he's gonna lie that.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, he's gonna lie, actually make that lie.

SPEAKER_13

So, yeah, the fact that you know he to this day still doesn't really admit what happened. Right. Um, it's also very interesting. And also the funny thing um uh I wanted to mention is that Jeff Goldblum was the one who pushed who pushed them to squash. The um Ronnie ends up with Staffus ending. Yeah. Because it was like that doesn't make sense. He does he didn't earn that.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_13

And no, he does not. I agree. Does not earn the face turn, in my opinion.

unknown

No, he didn't.

SPEAKER_13

So back. No, dude was a fucking stalker piece of shit. Showing up in people's apartments. Showing up where she was shopping. Full stalker. Full stalker. The fact that she even talked to him is like this is the 80s. This is the 80s. It's a very 80s move.

SPEAKER_07

We're just gonna be okay with this. Right.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, exactly. So, but we don't see um their relationship in this scene, um, where she brings the information to Seth. He's just kind of being addicted and kind of writes um Seth off as um a magician. He tells her, tells her that she felt for a trick. Oh, yeah, we're back to that part. Okay, uh how far back we were.

SPEAKER_14

See how segues work.

SPEAKER_13

But um, but yeah, uh, so she tell so he she tells him, you know, this is a great find, and it's you know, she really believes in it. But um he well or none of none of it, and then uh actually it's what happens next is that Seth shows up to the office, um, and uh Stathas gives them their room uh to speak, and um Ronnie tells uh kind of tells Seth uh Status' reaction, and he's like, Great, I'm glad he doesn't believe you. For real. They go out to eat, and um he convinced um Seth convinces Ronnie to hold off on the story until he can get the pods to work, um and ever and uh make everything basically work. Um so she agrees to hold off on her story, and in return, she um agrees to document the whole process. Um so the next scene we see um Seth using a baboon um in the teleporter. Uh and um this is where Cronenberg shines. So the baboon is turned inside out, and we see all of it right, yeah. Yeah. To be honest, if I were I mean, if I were running in that situation, I'd throw up and then run. There's so many times where she should. Her stomach was strong, bro.

SPEAKER_07

I'm just watching this in my stomach strong. Yeah. I ain't there. I'm not ex I'm not getting five D. The smell alone.

SPEAKER_13

The smell alone. Think about that.

SPEAKER_12

Ugh. Ugh. My wife pointed out something funny because we watched the original fly before that. Yeah. Oh, you did too?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, I did. I learned.

SPEAKER_03

Nice.

SPEAKER_13

Um, I was not expecting you to watch the original. No.

SPEAKER_07

I I respect that.

SPEAKER_13

How did you like it? Yeah. I'm I'm curious. I'm sorry, so I'm curious.

SPEAKER_07

Hey, it's that's fine. That's fine, that's fine. Um Vincent motherfucking price.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_11

He's the only one that performance. Right.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no, yeah, no.

SPEAKER_13

That's the only one that shows up that says, I'm acting today. Yes.

SPEAKER_14

Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_13

Helen doesn't do too bad, but she's not that yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I mean, I will say this. I will say this. This is his movie. It wasn't I I I will say this about um damn, I wanted to pull her damn name up. Uh I don't want to be disrespectful. Um she Patricia Owens. Patricia can't say um she uh it wasn't horrible, okay? Because you know, you gotta give Grace for the time. Sure. She she she was the screen queen for that fucking movie and um and the crying and all that, and uh yeah, she she she was cool, she was cool, she was cool. I will say that her act pretending to be mad, yeah. Yeah, that's a lot of things. Well, you couldn't see much of a difference between her normal, yeah, and her mad. And I don't know if that was a good thing.

SPEAKER_13

I would think I will say this. Helene was a motherfucking G. She was terrified and a bona fide thug.

SPEAKER_07

I I'll and I'll say this. They uh Helene and um what was Gina's care of Veronica? Ronnie, yeah, Veronica, I think was her name. Yeah, uh, they was motherfucking ride and dyes because right 100%. 100% one they they were because a black woman, nah, bro. Nah. Maybe Brandy, because she's like, unless you like to find somebody some hot topic black chicks, but listen, listen, Brandy was like, listen, uh, she don't motherfucking ride or die because I would have been out.

unknown

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

And this was on on, and this was this was on the the 86.

unknown

Wow.

SPEAKER_07

Cause listen, and listen, I'll yo. I mean the 86. Him. Yeah. When she hugged him. We'll talk about it later, but yeah. That's why I just bring up that one moment when she hugged him. Yeah. What you what what you doing? Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

It turns out Gina Davis was not acting. She was full-on grossed out by the basis of stuff. But she still hugged. Yeah. Right.

SPEAKER_06

This is that was a she hugged him.

SPEAKER_12

This is why Gina Davis is uh Davis is a G.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, 100%.

SPEAKER_07

Oh fuck. Hugged him. Yeah. Uh, but yeah, the the original, it all right. You can see the vast difference between the original and the 86.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so 58. Night and day.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, 58, you know, this is uh a mystery. Right.

SPEAKER_13

Yes, yeah, it's like a twilight zone. Or is it a mystery? Not a whodunit, but why. Because that's what the question you're asking to rob.

SPEAKER_07

This is a puzzle that's right put together. 86 is graphic.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it's a it's it's the science fiction horror for that. Yeah, definitely a science fiction horror. It's like you you came here for this. So I'm bringing you this. Basically.

SPEAKER_07

Um, and you know, the times was different, you know. 58, they wouldn't even think about trying to actually gross out motherfuckers, but apparently, you know, the reveal of his face in 58 was still a huge deal. Definitely. Definitely. My wife was scared when she watched it as a child. She's like, freaked her the fuck out. She was a child.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, no, that's definitely fair.

SPEAKER_07

But uh, I saw 58 before 86 came out.

SPEAKER_03

Wow.

SPEAKER_07

Well, dad, dad. Yeah. My my in-law is a true and through horror gore aficionado. Like 100%.

SPEAKER_13

Definitely gotta respect their credentials, because yeah, yeah. That's Greg right there. 58. Oh for it. Damn. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They knew. I would never make my kids watch the 58 version, and they would be so bored.

SPEAKER_07

And like as soon as it came on, you know, you get the the trumpets and stuff. I'm like, oh yeah. Let me settle in the stuff that movie of this time. I had to pause and like, let me settle in here because 58 wasn't bad. It wasn't bad. It's just, you know, you take it for it as the time wasn't bad. If I take if I compare it to uh 86, it's horrible. But yeah, sure. Vincent Price.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, Vincent Price. He carries he definitely carries a movie.

SPEAKER_12

And he loved he loved the horror genre. Yes. So much he telebles through like he is the OG horror character. Right.

SPEAKER_07

He's an icon horror. Yeah. Funnily enough. I'm like, oh, that makes sense.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Um, funnily enough, um, Jeff Goldblum wrote Vincent Price and you know, um, told him how much he loved the first one, he uh loved the original, and he you know uh he told Vincent, you know, I hope you enjoy my version as as much as I enjoyed yours. And Vincent Price wrote him back, and after watching the movie, he was he goes and uh he's like he's basically like I mean, you know, I enjoyed it, it just goes a little far.

SPEAKER_05

Like you guys just you guys you guys do a little something. You guys do a little something, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um I didn't I didn't expect what I was gonna see. Yeah in 86.

SPEAKER_13

I mean that was Yeah, they barely showed you much of anything in the trailer. Like the it goes there somewhat, but not all the way there. And so of course you hear the famous lion. Right. I think that was genius, though.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, that's not something you something like that, you know, being like first of its time type deal, doing, you know, yeah, I'm gonna shock the fuck out of y'all. I'm not I'm not letting y'all know what's about to happen here. Nah. Nah, I'm gonna give y'all Jeff Goldblum pretty boy. Right pulling them pulling the scenes. I'm I'm gonna get the skirts and the seats, and then guess what? Wolf. This ain't the show you meant to see.

SPEAKER_08

Right.

SPEAKER_13

And uh, I mean, this is after the thing, uh, 1982.

SPEAKER_12

So it does make sense that they like the thing ushered in a new brand of horror that we had never fucking seen before.

SPEAKER_13

John Carpenter. John Carpenter opened a door that nobody would thought was possible, should be opened. And David Cronenberg said, Don't buy them a new jump through that bitch.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

What may I say is say less?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, basically, it is on. Yep.

SPEAKER_14

But like, oh, this is what we're doing now, you're right.

SPEAKER_13

Let me let me freaking work out, sure. Watch me work, yeah. Just rubbing his hands together like a fly. Like a fly, yeah. Just don't worry about it, don't worry about it. I got something, I got something, I got some. So after the baboon scene, so this is one of those times where it's like I forget how good Jeff Goldblum is because after the baboon scene, he's clearly upset. Um and it's yes, I loved that scene. Yeah, and it's it was how he's seething with anger and just upset and kicking himself for not understanding why the pod doesn't work.

SPEAKER_07

Was that the only F bomb?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, I believe so.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, and that was rightfully done.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. So afterwards we see um Ronnie recording um uh Seth and um asking him, basically trying to get into his head about what he's thinking after the failed experiment. Yeah, and what went wrong. He's clearly upset, he's kind of running through the numbers, trying to figure out uh at the at that time, just he's uh what went wrong while while also being upset with himself. Right. And it is such a like he's so fucking good because you completely again, like you said, you completely well, even in this, you forget this is Jeff Goldblum and you think this is an actual genius because this is a how a genius would react to failure, Jeff Goldblum.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

So it's he's I I can't say enough good things about how well uh he acted in this movie.

SPEAKER_07

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_13

He does yeah, he does it for another throw.

SPEAKER_07

It's it's it's a great notch on his motherfucking belt.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, absolutely. Um, so the next scene we see them talking and um uh talking about food. Uh she's uh uh Ronnie's trying to get him out of his head, basically. And um, I believe this is where she asks about the the whether he has any other clothes, because she saw the next day wearing the same exact thing, and he explains that he the his clothes are all the same. It's just that he's like no, these are clean, it's just they're not the same. I just like I change my clothes every day. It's like she s opens up the closet and sees like the same clothes. It's like I mean, it worked for Einstein. I don't have to put any brain power into what I'm going to wear. So it's a nice touch, yeah.

SPEAKER_12

Again, they do like Cronenberg and Polk. I don't know how much of Pogue's script remained after Cronenberg, but I'm kind of I'm starting to read this a little bit.

SPEAKER_13

But Cronenberg really did capture what how a genius would operate in this in these scenarios. Like, of course, all the science is sci-fi, it's you know, grandiose, it's out there and stuff like that. But when it comes to the mundanity, the day-to-day of what how a genius thinks, how they their brain operates and stuff like that, he's got it. And I do I would be interested to see how much because there was you could tell there's probably a lot of um ad-libbing as well.

SPEAKER_12

From I mean Jeff, it's Jeff fucking Goldblum. So ad lib king.

SPEAKER_13

Uh I would like I would love to see the original script after Cronenberg and see what um Goldblum added to the scene to the character himself. Sure. Um, so they so she kind of gets um him out of his mood and they have Cordis. Um after which after after which um he she starts talking about like um she starts nibbling on him as apparently that's a woman thing because my wife has that shit too. It's a thing, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

It's it's it's in there, it's it's it's somewhere in that gene, bro. Like yeah.

SPEAKER_12

Oh, cute aggression.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. That's what they that's what they want to name it.

SPEAKER_13

Right, exactly. That's sure. It's yeah, I've been bitten so many times.

SPEAKER_07

So yeah.

SPEAKER_13

So she starts to nibble on him, and she's remarks that it's kind of the same thing with babies, like holy with babies, she's like, uh, you know, the flesh just drives me crazy. And then um Seth has an epiphany. It's like, um and he starts to work on his um bachine again. Um later we see them um at breakfast, or not breakfast, but um after he's done, he makes some steaks, and um we see her uh or him talking to Ronnie, and uh she's let he gives her two steaks to try, and um he asks, you know, uh how's the first one taste? She's like, tastes like steak, and she tries the second one. She's she's like, oh, it tastes synthetic. He's like, right. So basically he's saying, I didn't teach the computer, because computers are dumb. I didn't teach the computer to um uh kind of be driven crazy by the flesh, quote unquote. That's what he says. Um basically he's saying I didn't teach the computer to take the flesh into account and to um basically uh and what's happening is that it's giving uh a copy of flesh. It's giving its an interpretation interpretation of flesh because that's why because the steak that um she he gives her is had gone through the telepod and um it basically recreated steak, but it doesn't know how to steak tastes or you know, or anything like that, so it's uh it's basically a synthetic steak.

SPEAKER_16

Also, as an aside, when it comes down to teleportation between teleporting atoms and portals, portals every fucking day. Fuck atomizing fuck that shit.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, no, yeah. There's so many things that could go wrong.

SPEAKER_14

Every fucking day.

SPEAKER_13

I'll take a portal.

SPEAKER_14

I would rather been fucking space time than to de-atomize and re-atomize. Fuck that.

SPEAKER_07

Hey, look, yeah, I'll take a bite.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Fuck it.

SPEAKER_07

Oh my own doofie, bro.

SPEAKER_12

Right. But you know, if it were ever available.

SPEAKER_13

I'm taking a portal, dude. I'm taking a portal. Like, yeah, because uh yeah, because yeah, because then you get into the argument of whether you're not whether or not you're the real thing of whether the ship of just a copy, yeah. Yeah. And it becomes a ship of thesis argument, and uh so many so many ethical and then what happens to the original version of you? What happens to the original version of you? Does it uh are do you die in that time between the teleportation, even though it's uh it's light speed, it's still death you're experiencing, and then you're being ripped apart, and then yeah, you put back by at the atomic level.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, fuck that's absolutely believable that you would start changing.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Fair, yeah. So um after um Seth figures it out, uh, or figures out the problem, he sends another baboon with a telepod, and this time it comes out just fine.

SPEAKER_14

Motherfucker.

SPEAKER_13

Well, how did you get two tough two fucking baboons? Um, as an aside, um baboons are notoriously hard to work with all champions. They're notoriously hard to work with. But uh, I believe it was the tamer and Jeff Goldblum were the only ones that the baboon respected, and that was the Jeff Jeff Goldblum size. Yeah, Jeff Goldblum. Yeah, you expect the shit out of Jeff Goldblum.

SPEAKER_07

Say what? Say it again, sorry.

SPEAKER_13

So the bat so the bad so Jeff Goldblum and and the tamer were the only ones that the baboon respected. And you could tell the baboon actually liked Jeff.

SPEAKER_15

Like even like you could tell that like fucking gold bloom.

SPEAKER_13

Like right, but still big man. And that also he was for this at this point, he was ripped. Right. Yes, we get to from the movie, yeah. So um, but he but yeah, the the baboon was like, all right, man, I guess just whatever you say, bro. Whatever you say, bro. You can scratch me, I guess. Yeah, basically.

SPEAKER_12

So yeah, there was it's linked to the eccentricity of the character as well to have this stork, uh not storks, uh, to have this baboon or this creature as a pet. And you know, he's in the later scene when he's talking to us, like they get along apparently.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. So yeah, um, so that was an aside, but uh, so the experiment works. Uh the baby goes through, but Ronnie noticed something um on the table, and it is um from Staphis, and it's a mock-up of a magazine with um Seth on the cover. Um, but and basically Staphus is threatening to poach her story.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Like absolutely from and this is I'm sorry, I forgot a scene. Swinking my phallus. So this is after um Ronnie goes back home and finds Staphus in her shower. And he's basically like uh, you know, you know, you missed me, blah, blah, blah. So they were a thing before. We've that's when we find out that they were an item before.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, this was after the shower and after he showed up outside.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

And also And then at the fucking store.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Actually, no, the store is after he after what go goes through the pot. I believe if I remember correctly. Uh no. Because she gives her I could be wrong, but yeah. Because there's a whole montage. Oh no, no, no, no, you're right. You're right. She gets the jacket.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. Yeah, after the store. He's like, Oh, y you want this motherfucker.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

He fought yeah, post the story.

SPEAKER_13

Oh yeah, he follows her to um to uh Seth's apartment. That's how he knows to l where to leave or where to send the um the magazine cover. Um poetry basically poetry money story. Yeah, so I did forget that part. Um Stathis is an Amoral Asshole. Right. Um in a stalker and pretty fucking abuse. Like she should have kicked him in the nuts multiple times on the phone. Oh yeah, yeah. But this was the 80s. Fallas. But yeah, this was the 80s. Um so the next scene is um so after realizing what staph is staphis' meaning, um, Brianny runs off to meet with Staphis. Um and Staphis uh puts her on the nice guy and is like, well, listen, like I don't want to poach your story. Just you know, we'll we'll do it together. I just don't want you to leave, you know, completely to leave my life.

SPEAKER_02

Keep me in the loop.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, and to keep him in the loop about the story. Um, while Ronnie is gone, um Seth starts to put things together. He knew that the um the letter or the um the package came from Staphis and the way she ran out because she's before she leaves, she states that she has to get some basically her old life off of her shoe. Like she's just like the shit she stepped in.

SPEAKER_07

Scrape the residue of my old life off of my shoe.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

And I'm like, bruh, how did you not put that together? That like like he wouldn't talk about it, he wasn't a bad uh downward spiral off of that, and didn't he didn't read what that was saying. No, it's almost like scrape the residue, yeah. Of my old life off the near bro. There's nothing, bro.

SPEAKER_13

But that's also again his absent mindedness, his kind of myopia when it comes to his own stuff. Yeah, once again. Yeah, and you could tell he's not a guy that's done that you know has been with a lot of women.

SPEAKER_07

Well, you know, you got that you get you get that book smart and life smart uh clash.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Exactly. So um, so Seth starts to as as C was saying, do a downward spiral because like I said, he starts to put things together that she that she and Steth is used to be together, they work together, and now she ran off to go see him. So they have to be having an affair or still being with each other. So he starts to drink and talk with the baboon, and then he decides that he's gonna go through the pod himself. Um what he doesn't realize is that he has a visitor with him. A fly also enters the pod um before it closes, and he again unbeknownst to completely unbeknownst to Seth. So he comes out of the pod, feels great like um actually like a new man. Um he tells Ronnie about it uh after she returns and you know expresses that he was feeling jealous and um but he still recorded the um the event. Um later on we see uh so actually I think it was what that night um we see uh Seth's reflexes are fast quick enough to catch a fly. And then he goes and he and then he goes and uh tests out his new body, his strength and his um agility. Agility. Um he basically goes through some um uh what is it um gymnastics routine gymnastics routines and things like that. Ronnie just kind of watches in awe. And she uh will go from there, and the next scene um they're talking at a coffee shop, and he's just pouring sugar into his coffee while he talks. Because he's so excited and so energized, and he basically feels like the pod has purified him. It's uh it's like the things that hurt used to hurt before no longer do, like uh you know, old aches and things like that no longer do. So he believes that he was basically reconstructed by the pod without any of his you know former ailments, or um, and basically made into a superman. Um, but he uh what he doesn't realize is that the pod has actually changed him. Um and yeah, she so even Ronnie remarks, you know, do you want some coffee with your sugar? And he's kind of doesn't really pick up what she's saying and doesn't really think about it. So a man that smart probably would have picked up something went wrong, but he's so excited about the success and also the the feelings and um you know being basically supercharged, um, he doesn't think about it. You know, something could have gone wrong. Right.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, I mean geniuses are never filled to the brim with hubris.

SPEAKER_13

Right, right, never happen. So um she know so after uh Seth shows off his sexual virility, uh, because uh in another scene, um she uh Ronnie notices that there are strange hairs growing out of a uh a few cuts that he got the other night um on his back from a microchip being stuck in that yeah which was like wow, I don't even know how that ended up in your bed, but yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and this is I was wondering where that went. Wait, yep, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah we'll call that and those things were that thing went deep. I'd have been crying. Like, what the fuck? Oh my gods of the microchip went fucking deep. Yeah, so um she notices that their hair is growing out of his um the cuts from the microchip and that they're coarse and really hard to cut. And um Seth is you know, it's kind of you start you start to see him change. You start to see him start to twitch more and like he's not quite in his own skin. Like, you know, he's not comfortable in his own skin, honestly. And with um as she starts to cut the hairs, he actually starts to flinch uh because it hurts. Um, and he's like fucking stop. It's like he's like, it's your turn to go through the pod. And she's like, No, no, like go through this fucking pod. Crazy. She's like, I'm not gonna wrong with sense. Yeah, because she's a woman with sense.

SPEAKER_07

And um, you don't have the baboon checked out or nothing yet.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he also did not have the baboon checked out, which it's a he said he was gonna do originally before he went through the pod until he had his drunken meltdown. Um like so you're fine, I can tell. Right. Gulp, gulp, gulp. I'm gonna do it. Gulp. Yeah, let's do this.

SPEAKER_07

Gulp.

SPEAKER_13

Have my beer. Without I mean, if I was gonna do anything like that, I'd have I'd have looked all throughout that motherfucker pod. You know, yeah, but he's also drunk, yeah. He's also drunk, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Drunk in his feelings, right?

SPEAKER_13

Not a great combination for common sense.

SPEAKER_07

Um I mean I would have had tested, hey, what happens if I put two things in here?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Oh man.

SPEAKER_07

Oh god. Like not even not like inanimate objects, like that's fair.

SPEAKER_13

No, definitely inanimate objects.

SPEAKER_07

That's what she's supposed to do. That's that's scientific theory right there. Right.

SPEAKER_13

Um, but yeah, uh, he so he uh so Ronnie backs out, she doesn't want to do it, or not backs out because she never agreed to it in the first place, but um he he Seth becomes upset and enraged um by her basically lack of c of confidence, and um, you know, he goes off kind of waxes poetically about how um you know she doesn't want to be purified and all this stuff.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, he's uh it's uh getting a little zealotous, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Uh a little bit trying to go through the lick of Minnetonka, get out right exactly.

SPEAKER_13

No, so she's so um he storms off and goes to find somebody who will go through the pot, or at least want somebody could force to go through the bar. So he goes to a bar and um starts chatting up this woman, and uh all the while I do want to point out he's eating he's eating candy like crazy.

SPEAKER_12

He's got one bar after another every time he finishes a bar. Like the depth of knowledge that he went into with this, and it's the same thing for the 1958 movie. They go out of their way to uh make sure that you know like this is you know, these are the fly um mannerisms of fly. It reminded me a lot of Men in Black with um the bug. Eggger.

SPEAKER_13

Um Egg. Yep.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. The only thing about it is the 58, I mean, he first asked for milk milk with rum rum.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, and that's because of the sugar from the rum. Sure.

SPEAKER_08

Um rum.

SPEAKER_07

Um and then she brings down him a plate of food.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, a whole ass plate of food.

SPEAKER_07

He's trying to fucking uh rip apart that steak with one hand.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

So I'll give Cronenberg the edge on the the sugar.

SPEAKER_13

Um what uh on the no, and to me, as gory or graphic as it was, it was very subtle in its um transformation.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, subtle until it had to be gory. Oh yeah, absolutely. The core is in your face, but right, and even they still you know stepped it, stepped it, stepped it, stepped it. Right. Was a full on gradual.

SPEAKER_13

I have a fly arm and a fly head. Yeah, that was the best they could do for the time. I was like, that's all. And honestly, that's word for word what happens in the book or the short story as well. I bet. Yeah, yeah. Because 58 change it. Yeah. Well, they did do a lot of change, but yeah, this 58 was the most faithful to the original um short story. As it should. And they they even still did change things. The ending is completely different.

SPEAKER_07

Um I think one thing about that ending was like, you know, what?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, yeah. That's a that part is still the same. But uh, yeah. Actually, Helene uh ends up killing herself in the story. Oh actually in a in a mental institution when uh Francois shows up. No, okay. Yeah. Like, whoever wrote it gave it a very good end, much better ending than the short story. Like it was uh like this was like, you know, oh of course, police corruption at its highest by the end of that one, but it's like, you know.

SPEAKER_07

Man, listen, I I got I'll wait to the end. I got I got one big fucking take. Okay about the way the cops was moving. And the 58 one? Fair enough. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

So uh Seth is in the bar, and there's two basically meatheads, like arm wrestling over this woman, Tawny.

SPEAKER_07

Um James Clavell. Sure. He's uh he's uh from South Wales, that's Sydney, South Wales. That's who wrote 58.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, okay. Um, so yeah, so uh the great escape. Um Seth uh challenges the one of the bigger men to an arm wrestling uh match for Tawny for the affections of Tawny.

SPEAKER_14

Um I remember this scene growing up from growing up.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, this was your first.

SPEAKER_14

This was your first.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, he even puts like $100 down, and um so Seth uh you know uh starts to arm wrestle a guy, and you could tell the the bigger guy is actually really struggling um because of basically Seth's fly strength. And um he and Seth ends up breaking the guy's arm effortlessly. Uh we see the bone and everything.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, compound fracture, fractures, that's true.

SPEAKER_07

This was this was David's uh I'm gonna give you guys an appetizer. Yeah, yeah, basically. More to come, more to come later.

SPEAKER_13

Um so uh Seth takes Tawny and uh brings her back, brings her back to his place. They do the thing, and um she he tries to convince her to get into the pod. And uh she's like after he's all after he's watching him do it again.

SPEAKER_07

Get in the pod. Yeah, get in the pod.

SPEAKER_06

It's your turn.

SPEAKER_13

So she's like, no, I'm not doing that. Um, and you know, uh Seth starts to get upset, and this is when Ronnie comes into uh the uh apartment, and before that, Seth says, What are you afraid? And then um, and Ronnie gives the famous line, be afraid, be very afraid. Very afraid. That's right, that's right. Um, and it's that that line is basically horror history. Yeah, it's their tagline for the movie. Yep. But um, so Tawny uh runs off um after see after seeing um Ronnie and um Ronnie's not even upset about Tony, it's just like whatever. Yeah, there's a lot more going on than like there's a lot more going on. So she explains that she she had the hairs analyzed on from um suspect, and she says they're not human. And um kind of hearing none of it, and he's just like, whatever. It's a weird thing for you to do, is analyze these hairs and stuff. And she even points out like why would you do any science? Yeah, why would you do science? So um, so she even points out that he's changing, his face is changing, his attitude is changing, everything, everything is changing. He's just like, I'm fine. You know, there's nothing wrong with here, and he starts punching a wall. I'm here. What is a sick man to this?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, like actually fucking punching wall like he's fucking uh fucking Tekken.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, or uh he's had a few too many white claws.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, yeah. So um uh so Ronnie leaves upset. Um again, right or fucking die because yeah, black woman woman will not have gone for the city. Like, I don't want to see you you get out of here, yeah. You never come back, yeah. Uh she's upset. Um weak sauce. So um, so Seth goes to the mirror and he starts, you know, and uh the one tick that um he had beforehand was biting his nails, and he starts to bite his nails he's looking at his own face in the mirror, realizing that it's changed, and his nail comes off in his mouth.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

David, like now we're getting into the real body horror stuff starts. Yeah. Um you're invested. Yeah. Basically, once you once once you've gotten this far, because this is over halfway into the movie, I believe. Right. Um, so he so he starts to kind of examine his own fingers and he pushes one and a stream of pus comes out. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I wasn't even watching screen during this part. Because I'm like, I know it's coming. This is the scene that had me running from this movie. So I'm like, yeah, I'm good, bro. I'm not gonna. So I'm looking away. My wife's laughing at me and like, yeah, I ain't watching this shit. Yeah, that's fine.

SPEAKER_13

Chuckle it up, it's gonna be interesting to see your reaction to um clayface, because oh my god, the body horror. Oh, I know it's gonna be bad.

SPEAKER_06

But see, that was that was PTSD.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, that's fair. But uh, yeah, the uh so yeah, Clayface, the the the little scissors, uh, the manicuses to Yahweh. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be but at the same time, there's gonna be a lot more CGI than there's gonna be practical.

SPEAKER_13

That's fair, but I practical honestly. Practical gives me some time. Practical is fair. That's fair. But I will say that's why I respect it. But uh that looked um the CGI is ex is is expensive. I'll put it that way. It is good, it's real good. But uh yeah, anyway, that's a digression. So holy shit.

SPEAKER_07

Sorry. No, so I just realized something about David Cronabert. I've seen recently.

unknown

That's all.

SPEAKER_13

So um Seth, uh, we see Seth actually starting to put things together in his head that something did go wrong when he went through the pod. Uh see him with gloves on his hands to protect to protect his hands as he types.

SPEAKER_07

And um Yeah, I mean your your nails coming off. Okay, maybe something is wrong.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, basically. Yeah. He asks himself if he's dying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And um, so he stra so he goes back to the computer and asks, you know, basically what happened. And um he's the computer tells him that there were two signatures in the pod when he first went through. And um, he gives it out, and um, he's like, what was it basically? And it the computer composit bits and pieces of basically a fly from like um the molecular level, yeah, all the way up to like all the way up to when a full on fly is bone. It's like good god, this is disgusting. Yeah, like so tastes and strike because I'd have been like, what the fuck?

SPEAKER_14

What the fuck is that?

SPEAKER_13

And then until it beta fly, and I'm like, oh. Cause think it because let's think about this. If a fly was actually human size, oh my fucking god. Yeah, that would be horrible. Oh, I'd kill me. Kill me. Take me the fuck out. That's the stuff of nightmares, bro. Yeah, a lot of bugs.

SPEAKER_12

A lot of bugs. But they were, you know, life, just bugs in general. I don't think there's anybody that doesn't look hideous.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. That wouldn't look hidden. You made sure you got that idea.

SPEAKER_13

100%. Definitely. Take me the fuck out, bro. If uh if I lived in that world, nah, I'm good, bro. I'm good. I don't want it. Whatever the fu no. Think about a human sky besides a mosquito. Jeez. That's shit. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_07

Talking to him over like, bruh.

SPEAKER_13

Just uh just kill me. Um yeah, it would. But um, so go after some lions or something, bro. Like so Seth find so Seth asks the computer, well, what happened to the fly? And so, you know, he's hoping basically that the fly was kind of atomized, and it's like the computer's like, oh no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_07

What do you mean you're two were free? Didn't absorb?

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, did Brundle absorb fly? Nah, bro. What are you talking about? What do you mean? I wouldn't know.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. The Brundle and the Fly have been fused molecular level. This is so yeah, and that's our big reveal that he's been fused with a fly at the molecular genetic level. Yeah. As far as far as like between the two movies, of course, they couldn't do a whole lot with that, and it did stick to the original story, but to change it to this, to this, um, are you gonna explain then like what the pathos was for Cronenberg? Yeah. Um so Cronenbergs um wanted to basically make this have this represent disease, like um how the body deteriorates and breaks down when you uh get a disease. Unlike the original fly was just like, um, yeah, he's part fly now. Um, but no, he wanted you to see the changes that um people go through. And um apparently later people found this to be a metaphor for AIDS. And um Cronenberg was like, I mean, I'll accept it, but it's actually a metaphor for like all the And what did what diseases do to the body.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Gross. So like he thought of it more like cancer and things like that. Yeah, gross. Yeah. Um. So uh Seth continues to deteriorate, starts losing body parts and um becoming less human in appearance. And after several weeks, he reconnects with Ronnie and says he's becoming and tells her that you know what's happening, that he's becoming a hybrid human and uh insect that he's nicknamed himself Brundlefly. Um and this is where we get the scene where his ear falls the fuck off. Yeah. Yeah. And um not only that, he shows her like he absentmindedly starts to eat how he eats. Yeah, and he just vomits on on food on front of her.

SPEAKER_14

He's like, oh that's disgusting.

SPEAKER_07

Disgusting. Yeah. Great Jeff Gobel moment, though. Yeah, great, great goblone moment. Yes, this is it was just so as oh, that's disgusting.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_07

As you were, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

So um she this is where she hugs him after his ears fallen off and he's thrown up on his food to digest it because he hugged him. Yeah, and it's not just the ear falling off his makeup is ridiculous. Right.

SPEAKER_07

He's slimy, yeah. Dry at the same time.

SPEAKER_12

They again they published like the um designers and practical the effects artists and stuff like that, they went ham in the 80s.

SPEAKER_07

They won they won a Academy Award for this, actually. Yeah, they absolutely won an Academy Award.

SPEAKER_12

Not surprising. Yeah, yeah, because they really they won the award for the movie.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, the L awards the movie was good. Uh it got a couple Saturn awards, um, but the Academy Award was for best makeup. That is the that's it. I mean, they didn't even get no BAFTA.

SPEAKER_12

That's absolutely fine. They were nominated, but they didn't get no BAFTA. I'd have been like who If I were in the committee, it'd have got brought.

SPEAKER_07

Who brought this? Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Just dry heaving.

SPEAKER_07

Right. And then you know what? Someone probably did say, you know what?

SPEAKER_10

They win. Yeah. Special effects. That's all we could get on special effects. I don't want to watch this shit again. Don't fucking ask me.

SPEAKER_07

There's makeup by Chris Wallace and Steven Dupuy. I don't know how to say that one actually. Dupuy?

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, we'll go with that. Sure.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_12

But they yeah, they went all in for the makeup.

SPEAKER_13

And again, um, Jeff Goldblum really does play up this transformation as well because, like Nin said, he's like he's having more of the fly-like ticks where he like can't start moving his head around, and it's almost like a buzzing, like he's buzzing. Yeah, definitely. And um also um behind the scenes thing, um, they asked uh or at least some sex department asked like him to have or have uh actually might have been Cronenberg. No, special effects. They asked him to, you know, what mannerism could he give so that they could basically put into the in puppet so that you can still tell that it's him. Um so that's where the tick and the twitchings come from, is because they can do that with a with the puppet as well. And it's like, okay, so yeah, that's still him. Hey, the shit worked. The shit worked.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it's so awful. It's a soul, such an awesome uh uh accent.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Yeah, yeah, of course, but he cold does a great job. He really put himself into this movie, it's just like anybody else, it's just it's a bee slocky bullshit movie, but no, he was fully into it, fully committed.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I saw the names that they were originally looking at, and yeah, uh bruh. Richard Dreyfus was on the list.

SPEAKER_13

Michael Keaton was also on the list as well. Pierce Brosnan was on the list. No, fuck no. John Malkovich. I think Michael Michael Keaton would have I think he would have done it. John might have John Malkovich.

SPEAKER_07

John Malkovich also.

SPEAKER_13

He would have done the damn thing. Yeah, John Malkovich. He probably would have gone weirder. He would have gone weird way weirder.

SPEAKER_12

Like it it was it was better. Jeff again, yeah, no one could have played this as well as Jeff, but there are people who would have done well.

SPEAKER_07

John Malkovich would have had Malkovich would have been absolute nightmare fuel.

SPEAKER_12

Right. Right.

SPEAKER_07

Absolute nightmare fuel.

SPEAKER_12

And I think they all would have played the care I think they would have played the character less sympathetically. Yeah. Definitely John Litkow. Definitely John Litkow.

SPEAKER_13

They would have been more I could see them being more leaning into the ego side of things, being sure a little bit more villainous. Right.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, Keaton would have been a little more intense.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Uh yeah. I think Keaton's would have been very interesting.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_13

Because he did have um, he did have vulnerability when it can't when he played Batman when he was Bruce Wayne. He did have vulnerability. Um but it wasn't as sympathetic or as much as um Jeff Goldwoman as Seth.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Um, so uh Ronnie leaves, and then later we see her talking with um Staphus, and she finds out that she's pregnant with um Seth's baby. Um and she doesn't know what to do. So she later she goes back to Seth, who is now expensive about the MAGA baby. Oh yes, nightmare scene. Um, yeah. Yeah, you're right. You're right. So yes, um, so after finding out that she's pregnant, um Ronnie has a nightmare that she gives birth to a large maggot. And um she decides writing maggot. Yeah, yeah. My wife laughed because it was kind of hitting uh hitting her leg.

SPEAKER_11

It was that I say that reminds me of the uh Chappelle skit where or the um joke where he's talking about the guy masturbating other thing. Oh yeah. Oh, grab a bump my arm. Oh, that's what it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, uh you know, do your thing with it. You bump my arm.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Uh so um, so yes, after that, she um she decides to go to Seth uh w one last time, and he's the he's progressed now to accept it, more being more accepting of his form. He's actually now at this point. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, right before she shows up.

SPEAKER_13

Actually, no, not yet. He loses them after, I believe, because it this is that's the scene where he's asking the computer, how can he turn back? Um wait, when he goes to tell her about when she goes to tell him about the baby.

SPEAKER_12

No, that's before right before he loses his teeth, and he then he says he tells her about the museum of uh natural hit like his map.

SPEAKER_13

Oh, right, right, right. You're right, you're right, you're right. Because yeah, he does have that single in there, yeah. Um, but so before Ronnie goes back, she so Seth is um basically acts the computer, and you see his hands have mutated um to be more fly-like and um Yeah, they're like combining and shit. Yeah, the his fingers are combining. And um he could type with a he's only he's trying to type with like a pencil and one of the f some of the fingers because it's harder for him to type now. And um he's asking the computer how can he um turn back, and it basically tells him that he would need to go back through the pod with one or two more humans to kind of be combined again. Um the other thing is that it the computer doesn't rem recognize his voice anymore. His voice is straining as well, yeah. Um so uh and this is also when he loses his teeth um from the pencil. Um so Ronnie goes back to him and um she wants to tell him about uh the baby, but he's um kind of absorbed in himself. He even says, you know, this you know uh think this where he records himself uh actually no, I'm sorry. Yeah, there's a scene I skipped. Right. Yeah, so after after the ear losing scene, she goes back again to him and um she uh he acts he's actually becomes more accepting of his disease uh of the situation and uh even shows uh how he eats for posterity. Yeah, he's climbing on the walls and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that one.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. And he's kinda yeah, absolutely climbing on the walls and he's kind of losing his mind. And that's af the scene after that is when she finds out she's pregnant. Right. Um, and uh she kind of rushes it to the house, and staff is watching the video of Seth eat, and um, it's completely grossed out, and that's when she reveals that she's pregnant. Horrified, yeah. Horrified is a better word. Uh so and that's when she reveals to Seth that she's pregnant. She then uh tries to go to um Seth again and explain what's happening. Well, that she's pregnant, but Seth is basically like uh it kind of waxes poetically about being a uh insect who dreamed he was a man, and um he starts talking about um insect politics. It's like there is no insect politics because uh the insect world is brutal, and he tells her that you know he he's afraid he's gonna hurt her. Yeah, yeah, I remember that. So um she rushes out and um asked Steph is to have um bring her to somebody that could give her an abortion like right away. Yeah, like that minute, like ASAP. Umbost to her though, Seth is watching from the rooftop. With his little ticks, yeah. So they go to a guy to college played by David Cronenberg.

SPEAKER_07

Um, and apparently Gina requested that he play that part too.

SPEAKER_13

No, really, okay.

SPEAKER_07

So she didn't want him, she would feel uncomfortable somebody was playing that part. I'm like, what? Okay, whatever.

SPEAKER_13

Um, yeah, and also I think um, who do you meet with? Um Scorsese. So uh so apparently uh Cronenberg I met with Scorsese, and Scorsese basically told him that he looks like a doctor. So that's why he got the idea to play the um the gynecologist.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

So yeah. Um so they explain to the gynecologist that this abortion needs to happen right away. Um staphis says to the gynecologist, well, I mean, the guy that got the kid by is deformed, and we're afraid that the baby's gonna come out deformed. And she and he's like, and uh Ronnie says, and he might not even look deformed when he first comes out. He might look def he might look fine and then actually start to start to become deformed. And that's exactly what happens in the fly too. Um Martin comes out. Not really. He comes out in a pupa state, and then they cut him out, they cut the human baby out of the pupa, basically.

SPEAKER_12

And then from there he exhibits human traits, but he grows at an expansive rate. By the time he's five, he's actually 20. He's you know, Eric Stoltz.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, they were yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh damn.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, they didn't want to wait too long. How many yeah, because I'm like how many years did this pass when I saw Eric Stoltz something like that?

SPEAKER_10

Five. Five.

SPEAKER_12

Five have passed. Um by the time uh the movie really starts to take shape, like of course there's scenes in between of him as a kid and stuff like that, um, and then experiment on him. But by the time he's Eric Stoltz's age, he's five in the canon.

SPEAKER_13

So, um, so yeah, she uh explains that to the doctor, and finally the uh gynecologist concedes and is like fine, all right, whatever. And um, you know, starts to get her set up in the uh or tells her to change, and um as Staphist and the gynecologist sleeve, uh and Brundlefly busts through the uh fucking Kool-Aid man. Kool-Aid man busts through the glass and uh takes uh Ronnie away, and um it takes Status far too long to realize what the fuck has happened.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, because we're we're we're watching this like there's no way they didn't hear that shit. Right. How far away did you guys walk? And why was Stathis the first one through the door? They're in a a medical procedure, right? So yeah, you've been out in the fucking lobby and shit. So also kind of find it funny the doctor was like, oh fine, you're about to your choice.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Finally, after like battering him. Like finally. Um so Seth kind of begs um not kind of, but begs um Ronnie to not get rid of the child because it's the last part of human part of him. Um and kill me, basically. Um so he brings so he brings um uh Ronnie back to his place. Well, actually, I'm sorry. First, um we see next we see Staffis at um at Seth's place with a shotgun in the case. And um he's kind of looking around.

SPEAKER_07

That's one thing that pushed me off, bro. Why why wasn't the shotgun assembled already?

SPEAKER_13

For real. Like you didn't know. What are you doing? Like if you better come in gunny, you could come in gunny. Right. Why is it in the case? What are you doing? So he so Saphas kind of looks around the place and it looks like a trash heap, like a f a place a fly would live. Um that's a good point. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

And uh wasn't far off from what it was, but true, too.

SPEAKER_13

Um, so uh he's just kind of looking around and uh looking at things, but I'll be most to him, uh Seth or Brundlefly has also um come back to his place and Brunelfly jumps him from high. Um and uh as they jump down on him. He jumped down on him. Um as um Staphis because tries to shoot or tries to like get a lock on uh on um Brunterfly, uh Brunaflyn having it. Um and he knocks the gun out of his hand and it dissolves his hand and uh bomb and the the acidic vomit.

SPEAKER_14

There's not a lot of great acting in this part, yeah.

SPEAKER_12

So he was just like, uh, should I pass out? Should I should I just be horrified? I don't know what the fuck to do at this point.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, someone said yes, yes, yeah, exactly. All of the above, yeah, all the above. And then um as uh as uh as uh uh Stathis is trying to reach the gun with his foot, Seth uh watches off your hand, buddy. Like what is my man?

SPEAKER_14

Bro, how'd you think was that?

SPEAKER_13

Honestly, you should have just laid there and played dead after that part.

SPEAKER_14

Right. Right. Because at the end of the day, uh it still would have been the same and you'd have kept your fucking leg at the very least. Right. Um because if you just laid there and played dead, just like oh I'm in shock.

SPEAKER_12

Uh, you know, this the the scene still would have played out the same and you still would have had the chance to be the hero, only you would have kept your fucking leg, my guy.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, because Seth immediately uh sees that he's going for the gun with his leg and decides to vomit on his ankle.

SPEAKER_12

He takes his time with that shit, too. Takes his time with it.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. But it's very bug like. Right. Um, and he is about what you doing there, guy.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, what you doing a little fellow.

SPEAKER_13

Basically.

SPEAKER_08

Exactly. That's exactly what it is. It's like, what are we doing? Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, oh, yeah, that's that's cute. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Exactly. I don't think so. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Basically.

SPEAKER_12

And uh Massaphus in there writhing.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Oh it's weird. It's 86, bro.

SPEAKER_10

86. Yeah. I get it. I get it.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Um, so uh Ron, so it looks like Seth is about to throw up on uh stathus and eat his fucking face, and but Ronnie pleads with him not to. Ronnie is up in the rafters, uh, because that's where Seth had left her.

SPEAKER_12

Um but you get a payoff of that in uh the fly tone.

SPEAKER_16

Do you?

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, the guy Damn.

SPEAKER_07

That good, huh?

SPEAKER_10

So it was hilarious.

SPEAKER_12

I'm being broken out left. So at the end of the movie, the Martin becomes the fly. He pupates and becomes an actual like fly being. And uh like he's tearing ripping ass through this entire facility to get to his girl and also to get back to the pods because he he comes up with the same conclusion that um Seth did.

SPEAKER_13

Seth though, yeah. Um, and so one of the security guards um that's hunting them down, like uh Martin gets a drop on him, just absolutely projectiles in his fucking face like a hose.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, and the guy is sitting there, he's like screaming his face, screaming, he's tearing his face off and stuff like that. And then they have a scene a little later. Man still alive.

SPEAKER_11

Oh what is melted still alive, yes, still fucking breathing.

SPEAKER_02

Like they show up, it's like it's like it's crazy, guys.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, yeah, it's real bad. I remember now. Wow. Oh, he's barely breathing.

SPEAKER_07

One shot. Listen, yeah, Jesus. Look, no face, yeah, no face.

SPEAKER_14

I'm like, bro, call a corridor, please.

SPEAKER_13

Nobody's gonna blame me for doming that man.

SPEAKER_00

Good fork, yeah. Yeah, oh that was probably that's probably bad taste.

SPEAKER_14

I said, grab body bags.

SPEAKER_10

That'll be medic.

SPEAKER_09

What are we doing? Put him in a body bag.

SPEAKER_07

Fuck a stretcher, body bag.

SPEAKER_12

Body bags for both because he had killed a scientist before that, tossed that motherfucker at the door, another guy was coming through. I think that was the guy that got his face blasted off. But yeah, so so yeah, he killed he had killed the scientist who would uh who was poking and prodding him when he was younger throughout the movie anyway.

SPEAKER_13

He threw that he threw that motherfucker at another motherfucker. So yeah. Well done. Bro was on it.

SPEAKER_12

He was on one. He was up to he did not after he turned into a fight, he did not give a single solitary.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Martin definitely kills more people than Seth ever did.

SPEAKER_12

Oh no. Million percent.

SPEAKER_16

Like, I don't think Seth killed anybody.

SPEAKER_13

No, there's actually a scene, um, deleted scene where he um uh they have him actually uh so he's digging out of the garbage and eating garbage, um and uh homeless lady comes upon him while he's eating garbage and um she screams and he uh basically attacks her and mouse her face and eats it. But that's the deleted scene because it you know again it'll make stuff less sympathetic.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_16

I mean they didn't give a fuck for the fly too.

SPEAKER_13

Listen, let's do it. Let's just murder everybody. But uh so the sequels they always try to do bigger. Yeah, of course. So um Brundlefly goes to gather um uh Ronnie from the where he left her in the rafters and jumps down with her, and um he starts to drag her toward or sort of to explain what he needs to do is like helping become human. She's like, how? He's like, oh, just you know, you, me and the baby, we're gonna get in this pod, and we're gonna come out as one person. And she's like, What the fuck are you doing? Like, what the fuck are you talking about? And he starts to drag her towards the pod, and she pushes his face away, and his jaw comes off. Right.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. You guys okay at a moment there? Yeah.

SPEAKER_16

Because it's not only that, not it's what happens after that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

That was that was a well done scene, though. Right. Yeah. That entire uh eggshell, I want to call it.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, was special falls away and becomes completely fly. The fly creature begins to because it still has human eye, well, humanistic eyes.

SPEAKER_07

He don't have the full yeah. Well, yeah, he don't have those. They're bugged out, but they have like almost sockets. Yeah, just being on his face. Well, they have sockets, they're just not on his face.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. So um he so yeah.

SPEAKER_07

That's the most horrifying fly creature you could ever think of. Yeah. He fully transforms, yeah.

SPEAKER_14

Still holds up. Still holds up.

SPEAKER_13

Definitely absolutely gross as shit.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah. Right. Okay, yeah, and the bowls. I should bring it up. I shouldn't bring this. I'm I'm hearing the dry heagel. Okay.

SPEAKER_13

So yeah. I'm eating right now. That's what's hilarious about that. So yeah, the creature breaks out of the brundle shell, the brundle fly shell that it was in, and starts to drag Ronnie towards the machine, uh, one of the pods and throws her in. Um and uh the uh fly gets fly creature gets into the other pod, and um at the last second, right before the um the fusion can happen, um Staphis grabs it grabs the shotgun and uh destroys one of the lines um to one of the power lines to the machine taking it offline. But the fusion still goes through. Hold up real quick, real quick.

SPEAKER_07

So when he stuffs her into the pod and he's kinda like standing back and she's like looking at him in horror. Yeah, my wife started dying because if you look, his left hand starts moving like he's fucking waving at her.

SPEAKER_03

Oh I noticed that too.

SPEAKER_09

Fucking waving at her, bro? Right. It's like you'll be okay.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

So um Staphus uh blows one of the parlance to the machine and takes it off, takes the pod that uh Ronnie's in offline, and but the fusion is still going through in the other pod. And yeah, and uh he breaks out of it too.

SPEAKER_03

Right, exactly.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Um, and yes, uh Brundle Fly gets fused with the telepod or portions of the telepod. Uh, which is even grosser.

SPEAKER_15

Right.

SPEAKER_14

At that point, at that point, he's like, just fucking end it, bro.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, crawls out. Yeah. Fucking she's holding the fucking shotgun. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Can't do it, I can't do it.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, for like that noise. Yeah, he's like, um, I'm done here. I'm just gonna grab the end of this barrel and put it right on top of my head.

SPEAKER_13

Like, basically, Seth bakes or Seth bakes um Ronnie to end him. Um can't do no more from here. Yeah. And um he and she ends up after he you know, after she gets that he's he's begging her, he she ends his life.

SPEAKER_07

And that's like fucking incendiary round somehow.

SPEAKER_13

So I mean that is the maker of scanners. So yeah. Yeah, Sporting Heads is his thing. So yeah, um, that and that's the end of the movie. She fall uh Barney falls down in despair, crying over her lost love. And there's no epilogue to it either. Nah. Yeah. And it's it and Cornabrick, I mean, you gotta cross perfectly stuff is tragic. It's a strange story.

unknown

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Um the go home basically, yeah. Now go home and sit with that.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah, it's scary.

SPEAKER_13

Science is wonderful, it's scary.

SPEAKER_16

Told you to be afraid.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, be very afraid. So uh again, a cult classic. Um what did you uh want to say, CJ, about about the 58 movie with the cops?

SPEAKER_07

Okay, so if you haven't seen the 58 movie, uh, I'm not gonna go into great detail, but you know, it beginning starts with they find the fucking body on a press, which by the way, the way the groundskeeper or uh watchman reacted was probably the most acting. Worst acting.

SPEAKER_13

He went straight bug eye, so yeah, and the body that they find is um uh Francois's brother, uh this uh let's see Andre. Andre, yes, Andre Delama.

SPEAKER_07

Anyway, so her husband. Um you know she she admits she killed her husband to the brother. The brother calls the cop. The cop's like, what? Really? They show up, she confesses, what really doctor's like she's out of her mind, you sure? Um one thing I want to point out, one thing I want to point out.

SPEAKER_16

She double tap tapped that motherfucker, too. Well, she had to get rid of the arm, yeah. But that's a double tap.

SPEAKER_07

That's they didn't know that about the double tap though, at that point. They didn't know, but um But she did it, yeah. And she says she did it, okay, and they're in her home comfortable, right? She has a bit of coffee, right?

SPEAKER_14

That's a coffee with her. Yeah, she's like, Do you want something? He's like, Yeah, sure. I'm like, what the fuck?

SPEAKER_07

And then says, Hey, I'm gonna leave you alone in this room for a moment. Right after you've just confessed to killing your husband, to absolute murder, yeah. Nobody else is in the room because you kicked everybody else out to have a moment alone. Then you leave, and there's a big ass window right behind her, yeah. Okay, and then and then he's talking to the uh uh to to Francois, the brother-in-law, saying it looks like murder. She's a probably all she'll probably hang for this. And as a black man, I'm like, look, had she been black, she'd already be strung up on the fucking lawn.

SPEAKER_13

Pretty much, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

You guys didn't put no cuffs on her. No, nothing.

SPEAKER_13

I will say that this is this is not America though. This is France.

SPEAKER_12

No, no, it's not France. It's actually Canada.

SPEAKER_13

Is it it's Canada?

SPEAKER_14

They're not speaking French. No, and the thing is that's in Montreal, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

It was Canada, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

That was just for them to make an Americanized kind of a Western version because it did take place in France originally. Uh from France, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

But I'm aware she never saw a pair of cuffs, bro. Nah. The entire movie, even when they came to get her, she was going to the fucking uh the funny farm. Yeah, she never saw a pair of cuffs, threatened with a pair of cuffs. Nope. Fucking cool privilege.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, I mean, she was she was the wife of a rich man, so yeah, 100%. Yeah, I can see that working out. Even in even here in America, yeah. She it's her family is rich. Yeah, she married into rich, yeah, yeah. There was no way she was gonna see us, she was gonna see the inside of a jail cell, bro.

SPEAKER_07

He was making every effort to keep her out of the jail. Oh, 100%.

SPEAKER_13

Francois, yeah, he's definitely doing everything he could.

SPEAKER_07

Provided her with a nurse. And then Francois was an asshole talking about, oh yeah, the the the the inspector knows I'm here. Just smooth his way up. Yep. And no, no, no, no recourse for violating you know, police.

SPEAKER_14

Because he because he lost because uh Francois not just that, but Francois's logic, judo.

SPEAKER_12

You killed the man, the fly with the man head.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, and she killed the man with the fly head.

SPEAKER_07

Oh no, but I'm talking about um uh Francois getting past the nurse. Oh, right. He should have had he should have had consequence for that. He's rich. He lied. You know what I'm saying? Well, I'm I'm just saying. I mean, I get you. I mean, yeah, damn. It was the times, but yeah, shit. And I was fully expecting that that that the the the the the fly man to like throw her across the room for some reason.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, I was missing this entire time because it was the style at the time. I was expecting her, I was expecting him, like even as a man, I was expecting him to just kind of slap her up a little bit just to calm her down. Yeah, like you're screaming too much, smack.

SPEAKER_07

You will obey me.

SPEAKER_10

Thankfully, that didn't happen.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, but respect to Patricia Owen, she she hit that scream.

SPEAKER_10

Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

Her character was absolutely ride die too, because you know, she she she yeah, she was like, even after he was explaining what the fuck happened, she was like, I like that.

SPEAKER_13

Like, I just gotta find a fly, right?

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, she was like, I'm gonna do everything in my power. We're gonna get you back, man. Kind of get you back. I will say kind of because she gave up after a day.

SPEAKER_07

And and then why did she say it's gonna work? It it's gonna work. I'm sure it's gonna work. What science did you bring to this equation, ma'am?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, she yeah, and uh uh they he she asked him to go back through the podcast. He does it without the fly and he does it. Right. I don't know what the fuck he they thought was gonna happen, but yeah, right, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Your science told you I need to go back through with the fly and hope that that works. I'm not even sure if it's gonna work. Right. Without it, I'm gonna try it. My wife said it could happen. Yeah. My wife said it'll it'll work. Which true. A lot of times we need to just, you know, concede. Our wives know everything. Um the same. I'm just saying. There's there's times when you know your wife was right. Anyway, moving along. Um yeah, yeah, I was like, bro, like what science did you bring here, ma'am? And yeah, those are my issues with 58 and the help me the help me was peak 58 horror. Yeah, yeah. And that worked. That worked. Because I didn't I did not expect I I for completely fucking forgot the hands, uh, the shit moves and shit, uh swapped. So I was not expecting to see the head and arm on the fly.

SPEAKER_16

Yeah, yep.

SPEAKER_07

Because I heard the motherfucker screaming, I'm like, how's he talking? Oh, this part can talk. And I still didn't think, oh, there's probably a human head on that motherfucker. Yeah, and then they did the zoom in. I'm like, that was good. Yeah, that was good, that was good, that was really good. Um, but yeah, it was actually, you know, for a 58 movie, it absolutely holds up for a 58 movie.

SPEAKER_03

It does.

SPEAKER_07

It's fairly good. You gotta give your concessions and it's good. And Vincent motherfucking prize.

SPEAKER_12

I did not fall asleep, and that is that's saying that's high praise for her movie from that age. Yeah, but I absolutely fell asleep watching Osferatu, the original.

SPEAKER_07

Hang on, bullshit. I I kind of fell asleep a couple times watching both, but it's because I was up all night. So um I had missed the whole how can I turn back scene in '86. But 86, uh, besides David Cronenberg's absolute gore fest, um well done gore fest. But uh I just saw he's the king of visceral uh vener venereal horror and baron of blood, like it it fits. Um I was like they it they both still hold up very well.

SPEAKER_13

Um yeah, I will say so, especially especially 86.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, 86 is still still gross to this day. Yeah, Goldblum and uh uh damn it, I just forgot their dirty Chris Wall. Well, not Gina, but yeah, David uh let me slow the fuck down. Okay. Goldblum and Gina, they did their damn thing. They absolutely did. Uh John Getz, even still, you know, as his in perpetuity dick character, um, he did well. He does the job well.

SPEAKER_15

There were a lot of in the 80s, there were a lot of people who played dicks really well. It's just like you were born to play this.

SPEAKER_07

This was very much two or four. Yeah. Um definite shout out to fucking Chris Wallace and uh Steven DuPoy, Dupuis, whatever how I said it, the the the makeup they did.

SPEAKER_12

They they absolutely did that and actually Chris Wallace directed uh the flight too.

SPEAKER_07

This explains explains things. It does it does.

SPEAKER_15

Not everybody was meant to be a director.

SPEAKER_07

Because um the dude that directed one of the uh Freddie, not Freddie, Freddie series.

SPEAKER_04

Was it the Freddy series?

SPEAKER_07

No, scary. Nightmare on Elm Street Damn it, I can't remember if it was Nightmare on Elm Street or Scream. One of them, I think it was Scream, I think it was Scream, he fucked it up. Uh he was one of the uh he was somebody that had nothing to do with directing, and then he directed and but anyway, um yeah the visual.

SPEAKER_13

You're talking about Scream 7? Because that is what happened with Scream 7. I believe that's the writer ended up directing.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it was the writer, yeah. Yeah, yeah. That was Scream 7.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, not everybody could direct.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah. It's a hard job. It is a hard job. It did you got so many hats to uh really uh uh handle, but yeah, the visual effects team, they did their absolute motherfucking thing on 86. Um, as you said, it just still grows to this day. Yep. Um I don't care how strong your stomach is, you're still like to some part of that motherfucking thing. Because I've very strong stomach. I could deal with him, you know, cracking the nutshell and all that shit, but I absolutely turned away at the pus out the finger and the puking onto the food. I was not trying to see that. I couldn't look at the uh the nail thing because I have a I have a weird thing where I will feel yeah injuries that I see.

SPEAKER_13

Um and yeah, the arm thing, the uh arm wrestling one I had to look away from again. I knew that was coming. I was like, I watched it all. Horrific glory. Yeah, especially the baboon part. Because I was planning on looking away from the baboon. I was like, how did this end up? And I thought about it, but nah, I looked at it.

SPEAKER_07

Oh yeah. Inside out baboo with the twitching, though. It was the twitching, the twitching is what got me with that one.

SPEAKER_14

Yeah, that was twitching.

SPEAKER_07

I think it was screaming too, right?

SPEAKER_04

Kinda, no, uh yeah, I guess it made a sound. It made a sound, it was making a sound. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um, yeah, yeah, yeah. This is this is definitely one of those classics that remains a classic. Um, even though I did not watch it till first time for uh like two years ago. Well, yeah. Um it it absolutely holds up, it's absolutely that shit. Um, and it's absolutely something I wouldn't want to watch more than once a couple years. You know what I mean? I think you kind of need to kind of need to wash your brain a little bit, yeah. Yeah, and then go back to it. Um definitely some things I forgot. Yeah. People who watch this religiously every year. Yeah, or special breed. Yeah, special breed. I was gonna say you might need help, but you know, yeah, special breed. I'll go with that. Um respect to everyone involved with 86, respect to everyone involved in 58. Um, because there's just too many names, and I'm not gonna try to run through. Um, just respect to everyone that had this help to do because these these the these these are actually really good cinema classics. And I understand why Dev Goblum loved 58 so much. Um, it's a slow pace for me because uh I wasn't born in 58, but yeah, it's definitely slow, you know. We wasn't we weren't, you know, watching movies in 58. So yeah, but you know, you give it his grace for the time and everything, and it's it fairly does hold up. I like the mystery act as uh aspect of it. I mean, you can see the absolute paint on the blood going down the the press, but yeah, I was like, that's fucking paint.

SPEAKER_13

Absolute paint.

SPEAKER_07

Um but yeah, it it was a good it was a good mystery. Vincent Price did his damn thing. Um even the kid didn't bother me. No. And usually kids bother me, even though I was waiting for him to get slapped up too.

SPEAKER_12

Yeah, really was I was a style at the time.

SPEAKER_07

I was waiting for mom to s back it up. Yeah, like that.

SPEAKER_12

She grabbed him. I was like, I was I was just waiting for him to give her for her to give him a few like just slaps across the face and then start talking. Yeah, you get your shit together.

SPEAKER_10

This was a style at the time.

SPEAKER_07

Um, but yeah, they they they they're definitely classics. Respect to everyone. Um they're very good watches. Um yeah, and that that's come from a guy who is not a horror fan. Yeah, it's putting that out there. But all right. Uh anything else we wanna uh have a couple yippies about the the new Marvel news and all that.

SPEAKER_13

Oh man, listen. The the D23 came through. D23 came through and put his nuts out. It was just like deal with it. Put his dick right out.

SPEAKER_07

It was like deal with it. Like right after Comic Con, too. It was was crazy.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, yeah. Because we got a trailer for video, we had Hall H and D.

SPEAKER_12

Yes, yep, yep. That shit was vaporware for the longest fucking time.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I didn't know what's gonna happen with that.

SPEAKER_15

Yeah, I thought that shit was canceled, like we canceled everything else. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

All the black things was canceled. I thought that was done too. Yeah. Yeah. Wonder Man R.I.P.

SPEAKER_10

Fighting?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. We gotta get together, man. We gotta your one wing can't be Black Panther. I'm like my friend is one thing I will say Production Hell Wonder Man. One thing I will say is that Wonder Man probably Wonder Man season two probably is going forward because Daniel Dustin Cray is doing other places. So many things now.

SPEAKER_12

Right. Since they like this, I think they comment on the how good.

SPEAKER_14

Yes.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, Spider-Man put his that that put his stock up.

SPEAKER_14

Yes.

SPEAKER_07

Up.

SPEAKER_14

Because it was really it was pretty much after Spider-Man came out that they announced that they were canceling um season two, right?

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Yeah. They were like, you ain't, hey, you're not going nowhere.

SPEAKER_14

We loved you with Wonder Man, you know, but the Spider-Man's about to make us two billion dollars. In a hard time.

SPEAKER_07

Hard time. A fourth movie.

SPEAKER_14

Right. Yeah. That shouldn't work. It shouldn't work for a fourth Spider-Man movie. It hasn't been done yet.

SPEAKER_07

We are in uncharted territory.

SPEAKER_14

And people are saying it's the best Spider-Man out. Like it is. People who hated Spider-Man are fucking loving this. So you know, uh Dane, my man.

SPEAKER_13

My man. You're going no fucking weird.

SPEAKER_14

You ain't going nowhere. We're gonna have to cancel that. Uh Wonder Man. You thought you were gonna do season two?

SPEAKER_07

No, no, yeah. Nah, buddy. Worldwide box office is in at 1.8. Yeah. We're gonna here's what we're gonna do.

SPEAKER_14

We're gonna been out like 15 days to fix Spider-Man movies. How about that?

SPEAKER_13

They wanted to do um Doomsday. Yes. And he turned it down. I was like, I'll do Spider-Man movies. Oh, he turned it now. Yeah, you think he turned it down. It was like I he didn't feel comfortable doing it because it was just that's a that's a that's a big yeah, it's a big ass.

SPEAKER_07

That's a big ass.

SPEAKER_13

That's a lot. I do think Spider, I do think Spider-Man helps him get in the pocket more of being A in this universe and also playing with the characters on a bigger scale because you only had Trent um in Wonder Man. You had Wonder Man, you had Simon, you had um, was it Trent? What's uh Ben Kingsley's character name? Um crap. Shit. I might run Trent.

SPEAKER_15

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

SPEAKER_07

Bruh, there's so many, there's so many characters to remember. Trevor.

SPEAKER_14

Trevor, thank you.

SPEAKER_12

I was close, it was a T. Um and uh, but I don't think Trevor would mind.

SPEAKER_13

But um but so I think Spider-Man allowed him to kind of get that uh feeling of playing with more than one superhero or more than one big character. Like he had the Hulk, he had the Punisher, he had other characters when they're the MCU, and he knew how to kind of uh it seems like he's learning how to mold them and shape them and kind of play with them. Meanwhile, the Russos are you know bets at this by now. Yeah, absolutely. And I do like that he did get to play with other characters like um Frank and um uh uh Bruce and um and even introduce basically us to the X-Men in a way with nothing. Yes, yes, yes. So he's like there it's not small potatoes that they're giving him, and he's you know, asking for and he's asking for projects that he can really um work with. So it does I am kind of glad in a way he did turn that down. I thought it was like them saying you're not ready for this. He realized he wasn't ready for that.

SPEAKER_07

No, he was like no knowing where your pocket is right now, right?

SPEAKER_13

I mean because I mean Avengers Doomsday is probably gonna be another two billion dollar movie if the Russos is probably it's shape. I think it's shaping up to be that way. Right.

SPEAKER_07

I think it's another like like real like eye-opener, like all right, so I'm one man, you had the Russos for all these Avengers, right? Since uh let me so let me let me back up exactly.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, so yeah, y'all, y'all do your thing. I wouldn't be surprised. Do they have directors for Secret Wars yet or no? I believe it's the Russos as well. Yeah, I thought the Brussels. I believe it's the Russos again.

SPEAKER_12

So I'm assuming he's gonna do smaller ensemble things then, which is fine. Yeah, I think that's I'll enjoy it. Yeah, I think that's where he's probably uh probably best in the pocket. Um and Vision Quest was really surprising.

SPEAKER_07

I did remember them tail of them having Ultron, but having James Spader when he said human avatars only, I'll get the you see bearded spade, like yes, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

I was impressed. I was impressed that they went there to this, and I'm glad they did. Right, and to have them have this back and this constant back and forth, because that was probably one of the best parts of uh Age of Ultron was this was their tet a tet at the end of the movie or toward the end where they're talking to each other like these two robots or automatons that don't really understand humanity are sitting there thinking or uh contemplating humanity. It's a very inter it was a very interesting scene. So I'm glad they get to riff off of each other more. You have these two vetted actors um playing these characters that are very interesting.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um, I just double-checked, yeah, it is the russos for secret wars.

SPEAKER_13

Right, okay.

SPEAKER_07

Usually those kind of part one, part twos, they they just rock keep rocking with the russos.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Uh it works for me.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Um, and then on top of with that, also we get um they they wrote the band right off early because in Agatha All Along, they they string you along because you don't know who the young band is in Agatha all along. Yep. And Vision Quest, they said, nah, fuck it. This is Tommy. Yeah. This is speed. Yep. Which I was like, okay, cool. We're not even bothering. We're we're not bothering with any of that. Yeah, yeah, you don't know um Wiccan is Wiccan unless I mean you kind of get some hints, especially there's uh certain parts where Agatha says you're like you are just like your mother and uh before the full reveal, but yeah, um the we the full reveal, I think it's like maybe the very last episodes where he stuck into Wiccan costume. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Oh damn, that's cool.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Um, so yeah, uh we got another look at um Doomsday, which is marvelous. We get some fucking banger quotes from RDJ.

SPEAKER_14

Oh, as Doom and that acts as Doom is still so good.

SPEAKER_13

It's so good. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

He he man, the Renaissance of RDJ stolen beautiful to watch. Lovely doom, yeah. Beautiful to experience, I should say, not just watch. Beautiful to experience. It's gonna be great.

SPEAKER_13

And then the Doom, the I am Doom. Yeah, man.

SPEAKER_07

Sentinels, my nick.

SPEAKER_13

Right.

SPEAKER_16

Hell bins to me for that after yeeting Stormbreaker.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_13

And door. And that fit. Oh, I tell you, what that fit. Oh, that fit goes hard. That goes hell hard.

SPEAKER_07

What the hell is he laying with? You're gonna you're gonna beg for hell when I'm through with you or something like that. Right.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, basically. Me for I am. Yep.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. Yup.

SPEAKER_14

As he's awakening the sentinels, uh, uh make me sick to my stomach. Talk about swinging fish. Come on.

SPEAKER_07

That was geez, you didn't have to go so hard, bro.

SPEAKER_14

And he's got the Tony where he's got the barns out, and he's like, you know, let's fucking play. Like, come on.

SPEAKER_13

It's ridiculous. Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous. That was disgusting. I I'm hoping for more for more quotes from that movie. Right. It's gotta.

SPEAKER_04

There's no way.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah. And then um the if I can't wait for the scene with from Pedro Pascal and RDJ going back and forth. Oh my god. Uh yeah, that's gonna be crazy. I that's gonna be crazy. That's something I never knew I needed. Exactly.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, serious, honestly, 100%.

SPEAKER_13

And then I could see uh RDJ's doom treating him callously, like get his, like get your arm, get your hands off of me, like you know, just swiping him away and then saying some cold ass shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just I cannot wait until this December. Cannot wait. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um, and then we got uh the the cast of the upcoming X-Men movie.

SPEAKER_13

Right, yep. Um I'm very intrigued. I'm very intrigued.

SPEAKER_07

There's some new names for me. Um I'm trying to think. I feel like I've seen Maya Boy somewhere, but I don't know what. Um our new storm. Her face looks like she might just have one of those faces, but the he was right. We appreciate that. Um fucking Indy Navarre. I still have to am stoked to see what she does with Rogue because for those of you who have seen Obsession, because some people have not, um she murdered that role. Like she is absolutely the fucking uh gift of that movie. I believe it. She as stupid as uh what the fuck is his name? Bear is. You know he's a real villain. If you don't know he's a real villain by now, too bad. Spoiler, he's the villain, because goddamn he's a piece of shit.

SPEAKER_13

Um it seems like the whole friend group from what I'm seeing is just awful.

SPEAKER_07

They're all yeah, they've they've all got awful terms, but bear but bear takes the cake. Yeah, he literally creates his own nightmare pocket of love.

SPEAKER_03

Suffering.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, it just involves everybody.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

He pulled everybody in.

SPEAKER_07

Well no, he he he's given an out. He does not take it and then he causes this shit. Um but Igney never read, man, the the thing she did with that role. Um I don't know how much of it was her working with the director, um or just her just working it out, but she delivered every bit of that fucking role. Um she took that shit to aspects you wouldn't expect. Um Samara Weaving, I'm I'm a fan of hers, uh Hugo's niece. Uh she's she's been doing the thing for quite some time. Oh yeah, yeah, because she didn't know that. Yeah, that's Hugo's niece.

SPEAKER_12

Um I've I don't know why, but I never put the connection together.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I found that out, I think, when she was in was it mayhem the movie with uh Steven Ewing.

unknown

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Um because I've seen her before that. I think it was that babysitter shit, I think that she was in. One of the kids was watching that shit. I'm like, okay, she she's got chops, and then she's just been proving it all along. Um Adam Driver, I'm excited to see what he does with Mr. Sinister. Um I don't know anything about Christopher Abbott or Kit Connor.

SPEAKER_12

No, there's a lot of unknowns. Uh Maya Boyd is an unknown, actually. Yeah, okay. Did one short uh film and uh the Broadway show. Yes, it is a Broadway show. Oh, it's there's a lot of unknowns, which can be a good thing. I'm interested to see what they're like. I'm kind of glad they're going with unproven talent. Um they should.

SPEAKER_13

This this also breathes new life universe.

SPEAKER_11

Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_13

This breathes new life. You're not expecting these like anything from these people, so it it gives them the chance to kind of like uh to shine, or you know, you you get a chance to see who they are.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, this kid was in Craven. I didn't watch that, so that doesn't matter. Nobody did. Um I mean he's got some work, but uh he he ain't brand new, but some work. I respect that. Yeah, but I'm kicker. Yeah, I'm gonna go. No, sorry, Chris, Chris Rabbit. He's got some he's got some work, so that's cool. I mean, and you know, he's he's gonna be playing Professor X, so he's he should have a little seasoning tool. Yeah. But yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

But uh yeah, yeah, I'm I'm excited to see where this goes. Um definitely sadly I had to have a a conversation during uh or after homecoming. I'm not homecoming, sorry. God damn what the fuck is this called? Brandy Day. Damn. Um it's so many fucking words and shit in my head right now. Anyway, after Brandy Day, I had a discussion of why there was a different gene gray. I'm like, the woman is 61. She'd be in her twenties.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_12

Ish. And if they're doing they're if they're doing something completely different where you know the X-Men, like, why why would they not?

SPEAKER_07

Look, and I was like, look, the movies came out 20 years ago.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Right.

SPEAKER_07

They're not going to have the same movie. We have the same Scott. Like, mate.

SPEAKER_13

I mean they but the thing is third time now, they've changed it. So and the thing is, like, that that if if you don't know by now, that Scott ain't sticking around. No, he's not.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no. She said, We we have we have Professor X and Magneto.

SPEAKER_13

This is their last call room, my friend.

SPEAKER_07

Don't be back.

SPEAKER_13

This is this is the best. It will be no they're waving goodbye.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah. That he is retiring. Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Right. Yeah, this is it. We're done, man. If it's not his last, last movie, it's one of his last movies. Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

He's not, he's not gonna be. He's he's not.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, Patrick Stewart is done. And I don't blame him.

SPEAKER_07

He is he is going off to the sunset. Right. Yeah. On a high. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_14

I don't like what happens in basically they're kind of putting the cart before the horse, but I understand why they're doing it.

SPEAKER_13

Because Secret Wars happens and then Doomsday, basically, or Doom Battle World happens. But that's neither here nor there. Doesn't matter. Comic book stuff. Um, what I can tell from Doomsday is that it seems like he's the catalyst for all the worlds colliding and stuff like that.

SPEAKER_04

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_13

And um those worlds well, in the comics, in Secret Worlds, those planets are getting fucking destroyed.

SPEAKER_08

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_14

So I don't see these motherfuckers last at all. Like, you know.

SPEAKER_13

Don't uh don't expect to see this version of Gambit. It needs more. Yeah, unfortunately. Yeah, this might be his. Unfortunately. I really hope he makes it into the main universe. I really do.

SPEAKER_07

He's supposed to be older. He's supposed to be older than the rest of them a little bit.

SPEAKER_13

He is actually, yeah. Gambit, I believe, is is not the same age as like the other X-Men, if I remember correctly. I mean, of course, it's no Wolverine, but yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah, yeah. He ain't Wolverine. He's like, well, we had Hugh Jackman. Wait, but Wolverine's older than everybody. Right. Right.

SPEAKER_12

And the fact that Mer they haven't announced the Wolverine, I don't think Hugh Jackman's coming back as a Wolverine. Like, of course, he'll be back as Wolverine, but not this version of Wolverine.

SPEAKER_07

They're probably holding that close to the chest because that that that's been uh that's been a thing where he said he's he's done, and then you know, of course, Ryan, you're gonna do this till you die. Right. Um he's soft and shit too. Um but yeah, yeah, yeah. It's it's it's I'm excited.

SPEAKER_13

I uh yeah, I'm interested to see where where they go and because it seems like they're doing things now with a vision in mind. Right. They've they've not got the world off. Yeah, they know what the world should look like going forward. So I'm interested to see what they what they do next. Right.

SPEAKER_07

It took a little bit. Yeah, and also I don't think we've said anything about you know David Johnson being.

SPEAKER_13

Yes, I was gonna bring that up.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah. I'm absolutely excited for that. Hey, he has he has impressed me ever since uh what was it was that Romulus?

SPEAKER_03

I think Alien Romulus was actually he was probably the best part of that film, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Phenomenal. Um, I was not watching The Long Walk, but I've heard from people who had suffered through the long walk that he was the best part of the long walk. Yeah. Um I I refused because I saw everything I needed to see in that trailer.

SPEAKER_13

Uh basically saw the movie, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

And then I'm like, they're walking, I don't care. And then uh it came back to me like it was awful, except for him. Uh I think Hamill was it was good, but it's Hamill. Yeah, some people didn't realize it was Hamill. Wow. Really? Uh um, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh I'm I am excited for this new wave, this new phase that we're coming into. Yeah. Um, I feel like they're making some really good choices.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_13

Um especially backing down off of like the TV, all of the TV shows and stuff like that. Although I will I will like to know what the fuck happens to re and I'm hoping that Simon isn't completely kiboshed, even though the Wonder Man show is gone. I I do hope to see Simon later. Definitely on other projects. Yeah, that'd be nice.

SPEAKER_07

It would have been really nice if they got blade off the ground, but yeah, so it is official that uh Marvel TV at least bring them in.

SPEAKER_13

It is official that Marvel Marvel TV is done. I guess it is official. No, I'm just asking.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, I heard they've just known right. It it is possible that Vision Quest is the last. It is possible.

SPEAKER_13

It seems like it. It does. I think they're still gonna do the street. I know they're still gonna do the street level.

SPEAKER_14

Right.

SPEAKER_12

I think that's where they might concentrate their efforts on instead of buying it into other movie properties, they'll probably do street, they'll probably save the TV shows for the street level stuff. Since they have access to it now, more than likely they'll create a little defenders verse for people to watch on TV.

SPEAKER_13

And all of that.

SPEAKER_07

I yeah, I think that that'll work. They're at the the the climate where that can actually work. They won't have you know so much superhero fatigue because we have different we have different shits. Now all tying in, you don't have to watch this to watch this. Right, right. You know, it was a cool idea for the inclusiveness of it, but it just didn't work. It was it was too chaotic. Right. And I'm glad they're too much. They they got the wits a bottom on that. Um I was excited to, you know, be a part of that, but it yeah, you know, it's a lot. It can be a lot, especially because you got different release schedules and shit. It it's a lot, it's a lot, right?

SPEAKER_12

So I think, yeah, separating it out, maybe having a superhero to show up in the defender's verse or having the defenders show up in the uh regular Marvel movies, like with Punisher, I think that would probably play what play better.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, yeah. Uh I'm not yeah, just to say, okay, we are still connected, right? These are the here are some important characters, right? And yeah, I I would like that. That's fine by me.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and it does like you know, smaller stories they can run just with the Marvel versus uh Marvel TV versus having an actual full-on movie and shooting.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, and even if they do stuff like I could see them doing a uh a mini-series for not only the Defenders, but um Midnight Suns. I know they want to do the movie. I would love to see Midnight Suns. I think a mini-series of Midnight Suns would probably work better, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_07

Because I mean they already started with Moon Knight and all that, but exactly.

SPEAKER_15

You have Moon Knight Ghost Riders coming.

SPEAKER_07

Right by Ryan Ghost playing Johnny Play. Yes, yes, yes. Another another choice I'm happy to see. Right. Same. It's becoming again a good time to be a Marvel fan.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, I'm still wearing all lanterns for uh Marvel Lanterns is yeah, as of the time of recording, it comes out tomorrow. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Alright, I'm with that. Yeah, um, but yeah, I'm hoping lanterns is good. I'm hoping that Supergirl didn't do real. Um things too much. Again, we really, really, really, really, really wanted it to be good.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, we really just we it they just didn't land, unfortunately. No, unfortunately. Unfortunately. And I'm still debating if I'm gonna watch it again because of pieces I I uh blinked on.

SPEAKER_13

Oh super girl. Yeah, still I mean Viacon Needles, my friend.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it is what it is. It's like I'm like hoping maybe on the second rewatch, but I know I know the problems that it has.

SPEAKER_13

Yeah, see if I can just really I really wanted that to be good.

SPEAKER_07

I don't know if I want to just kind of just watch it just to like enjoy the graphics of it. Because the story has problems, but anyway, we're not we're not gonna we're not gonna rip into that one. Um but yeah, I I think that's most of the the nerd news we've got going. Yep. Um Mr. Vin.
